I wanted to draw Malcolm X smiling because I realized after looking for reference shots that almost all the sketches and pictures of him hardly had him smiling. This was the man our government killed and I wanted people to see him as the human he is, and I feel like smiles capture that in people, not to say keeping smiles to yourself means you aint human but something about a smile reminds you “I’m still here”. Idk if that makes sense.
